The Design Process
INITIAL VISIT
When
you contact me we can arrange an initial visit to discuss the
garden. During the visit we will discuss your requirements and I will show
you a portfolio of previous work.
Before the meeting it
is a good idea for you to spend some time thinking about what you would like
from the garden, discuss this with the whole household and draw up a list of
likes and dislikes, how much time will you spend in the garden - would you
rather spend time relaxing or do you enjoy planting out and pruning ? What
will you use the garden for - will it be an area for entertaining or a safe
space for the children to play ? Would you like to encourage wildlife into
the garden ?
It would also be
helpful if you have some idea of the budget you would like to spend on
developing the garden, this will determine the type and style of materials
used within the design.
I will then go away
and prepare a written quote to produce the plans.
Once this quote has
been accepted I will return to survey the garden. (the survey may be carried
out at the same time as the initial visit if it is a small area)
In the case of very large gardens or those with more complex levels it may
be necessary to bring in a Land Surveyor - the cost of this would be
included within the quote.
I will then produce
some preliminary
ROUGH SKETCHES
offsite.
We can then discuss the sketches and make any amendments as necessary.
A
LAYOUT PLAN
will then be produced, this is a hand drawn , fully labeled plan showing the
shape and structure of the garden including terraces, trees, ponds and other
features such as paving type and patterns, walls and pergolas. This is drawn
to scale on A1-A2 paper.
HAND COLOURED
presentation plans are available if required.
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS,
written specifications, sketch drawings and cross sections may be required
and will be quoted for where necessary.
Suggestions of
planting themes will be shown on the layout plan.
DETAILED PLANTING
PLANS -
showing exact location of plants with a schedule listing quantities of
plants and plant information and care are priced separately.
CHARGES
FREE
first visit to discuss requirements and view garden. This is not a full
consultation visit.
Each plan is priced
individually on an hourly rate and the cost will be determined by the
complexity of the design and the amount of detail involved.
But as a very basic guideline plans start from £4 per sq.m for gardens up to
50 sq.m then start at £250 for a layout plan covering a garden of up to 100
sq .m. Construction details and planting plans are priced separately.
A written quote will
be given before any design work is carried out.
